CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Rayside-Balfour Canadians netminder David Bowen stopped all 36 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout, a 3-0 triumph over the Blind River Beavers, Thursday at Chelmsford Arena.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Rayside-Balfour would get on the board late in the second stanza when Brady Maltais buried his ninth of the season at 17:04.
Heading to the final frame, Maltais added another with just over eight minutes remaining before Jett Leishman secured the victory for the Canadians with an empty netter at 19:19.
Matthew Dokis-Dupuis dished out two assists in the triumph by the home side.
Recently acquired Jackson Hjelle made his NOJHL debut in net for Blind River and made 34 stops in defeat for the Beavers.
With the win, Rayside-Balfour improves to 17-11-1-2 on the season and move two points up on Blind River in the NOJHL West standings as the Beavers slipped to 15-11-4-1 on the year.
