Canadians double up Express 4-2

ESPANOLA, Ont. – Matthew Dokus-Dupuis’ 10th goal of the season, 17:18 into the second period, proved to be the game-winner as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians went on to double up the Espanola Express 4-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Bradley Brunet, making his NOJHL debut for Rayside-Balfour as an affiliate player, put the Canadians on the board midway through the first period before Connor Tessier connected for Espanola late in the frame to knot the affair at 1-1 after one.

Heading to the middle session, Kyle Liinamaa gave the visitors the lead once more at 5:49 only to see Bret McInall strike shorthanded for the Express at 13:58.

However, Dokis-Dupuis broke the deadlock for good late in the session as Rayside-Balfour carried a 3-2 cushion into the third.

In that final frame, Noah Serre’s sixth added some insurance for the Canadians as he scored on the power play with five and a half minutes left in regulation to help secure the win.

Sebastien Plamondon recorded the victory in net for RBC while Espanola goalkeeper Joel Rainville suffered the defeat.
