Canadians’ Savard shines in 1-0 shutout win over Eagles

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – A Tristan Simm power play marker midway through the third period was the only goal of the game while MacKenzie Savard stopped all 37 shots he faced to backstop the Rayside-Balfour Canadians to a narrow 1-0 win over the Soo Eagles Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Chelmsford Arena.

Both netminders, in Rayside-Balfour’s Savard and the Eagles’ Sean Angle were solid throughout in keeping opposing shooters at bay in the contest.

After the opening 40 minutes was scoreless, Simm provided the only offence of the night during a man advantage opportunity at 10:17 of the third as he finished off the work of teammates Logan Lefebvre and Cayse Ton, who drew assists on the play.

Angle finished with 29 saves in defeat for the Eagles.
