RENFREW, Ont. – The Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) trio of Thomas Dickey, Jonathan Swyer and Dylan Pollock were credited with three points apiece in leading them to a 6-4 triumph over the Powassan Voodoos Saturday afternoon in the Valley Cottage Cup in Renfrew.
Special teams were prevalent throughout as the clubs combined for seven power play goals, including all four markers the Voodoos supplied.
Alex Little gave the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League side an early lead, as he connected two and a half minutes into the proceedings, with help from Tucker Shields and Conor O’Brien.
However, Carleton Place countered by striking three times before the first intermission thanks to tallies from Pollock, Dickey and Swyer.
A goal-filled second stanza saw five of them provided in the final 12 minutes of the session.
Cameron Lemcke brought Powassan closer at 8:26, while up a skater, only to see Pollock match that a couple of shifts later.
After Jack Kedwell made it 5-2 Canadians, the Voodoos capitalized with a pair of extra-man efforts off the sticks of Carson Ricci and Tucker Shields to pull within one.
In the third though, Canadians got some insurance from Cole McGuire midway through final period to help secure the win.
Caleb Sanders got the starting nod in net for Powassan as did Jackson Pundyk for Carleton Place.
The Voodoos will now meet either the same Canadians or the host Renfrew Wolves in semifinal play Sunday at noon, with the winner advancing to the championship game at 5 p.m.
