GALLERY: Caron collects pair as Rock double up Crunch

COCHRANE, Ont. – Phil Caron’s second goal of the game, coming on the power play, in the latter stages of the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Timmins Rock went on to double up the Cochrane Crunch 4-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League day-delayed contest Friday at Tim Horton Events Centre.

Cochrane skated out to an early lead when Michael Champman notched his second of the campaign two and a half minutes into the contest.

Timmins countered with the equalizer though a couple of shifts later when Caron collected his 20th tally of the season to knot the affair at 1-1.

The Rock then went in front before the period was complete as Karter Renouf collected his 18th at 14:55 as they carried a 2-1 cushion into the intermission.

Action in the middle stanza saw the guests strike twice late beginning with the Caron man advantage marker, followed by affiliate Harry Clark’s first NOJHL goal at 17:07 as Timmins took a 4-1 lead after two.

Third period play saw Billy Paschen get one back for the Crunch with 6:48 to go, but it turned out to be the final marker of the night.

Timmins’ affiliate netminder Justin Vertesi faced 16 shots to pick up the win while Cochrane’s Tomi Gagnon made 38 saves in defeat.
