Cochrane extends win streak to 8 after edging Iroquois Falls

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got two goals, including the game-winner, from Bailey Shaver to help them edge the Iroquois Falls Eskis 3-2 to win their eighth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest in succession Thursday night at Jus Jordan Arena.

Each side came out strong offensively in the opening 20 minutes with both teams tallying twice in the frame.

Shadow Reuben’s 21st of the season gave the Eskis the early lead 1:49 in only to see the Crunch counter with markers from Darian Harris and Shaver before the contest was eight minutes old.

Iroquois Falls would tie it 74 seconds after Shaver’s effort compliments of Alex Mitsionis at 8:19.

Action in the middle stanza saw Cochrane register the eventual difference maker as Shaver collected his second of the night and 13th overall with 2:56 left in the session.

Both sides tightened up defensively from there as the rest of the game went scoreless.

Jack Speer did have a couple of assists for the Eskis in defeat.

Leighton Williams made 30 saves to pick up the win for the Crunch while Artem Bortovskiy was solid in the setback for his club facing 55 shots along the way.

With the result, Cochrane’s win streak continues as they improved to 32-11-4-1 overall while Iroquois Falls slipped to 15-26-3-0 overall.
