Cochrane hits their holiday break after home ice triumph over Powassan

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch collected goals from seven different skaters to help prople them to a 7-4 victory over the Powassan Voodoos Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Tim Horton Events Centre.

The visiting Voodoos didn’t take long to get in flight in this one as Henry Scott scored 19 seconds after the opening face off to put the guests up 1-0 early.

Answering back, Cochrane collected a pair of markers in the latter stages of the first period on goals provided by Zach Hayes and Tristan Taillefer to take a 2-1 lead after one.

Action in the middle saw the Crunch tack on two in rapid succession to go up 4-1 as Jacob Stos and Shadow Reuben both found the back of the net before the frame was four minutes old.

Battling back, Powassan cut into the deficit as Samuel Bourdages finished off a Scott feed at 11:55.

They then picked up a power play a few minutes after that and made it 4-3 thanks to Tomas Yachmenev who added his 16th only to see Cochrane’s Caleb Dolman counter just 12 seconds later to extend the cushion as he ran a point streak to four.

As the contest hit the third period, the Voodoos drew closer once more off the stick of David Campbell four minutes in on his 10th of the year.

However, the Crunch came right back once more with another rapid tally 87 seconds later off the stick of affiliate Samuel Vachon.

Austin Whelan then wrapped up the win with an empty net effort in the late stages as his 22nd tally of the season put him into the league-lead in goals scored.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Cochrane by a 48-24 count with Bradley Dobson picking up the win while Christian Cicigoi suffered the loss.

With the outcome, Cochrane wraps up the 2018 portion of their schedule as they improved 22-14-0-2 overall while Powassan dipped to 19-13-1-0.
