COCHRANE, Ont. – Levi Johnson had a hat trick and three assists to help the Cochrane Crunch throttle the Timmins Rock 12-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at Tim Horton Event Centre.
The visiting Rock started things off offensively seven minutes into the contest thanks to Derek Seguin’s 12th.
Cochrane countered however with a pair of Johnson tallies.
The Crunch then went up 3-1 early in the second period as Zach Hayes’ seventh put them up by a pair.
They kept coming from there with Kyle Herbster burying his team-best 36th midway through the game with his third point of the night on an evening in which he etched his name on the score sheet for a fifth consecutive outing.
Continuing to press the home side tacked on three more before the second period was complete on markers from Austin Stauffer, Austin Whelan and Eli Hernandez.
Thomas Hernandez then got into the act 19 seconds into the third to make it 8-1.
Timmins did get one back on a power play from Paul Spadafora at 8:57, but Cochrane answered with man advantage efforts from Johnson and Connor Lovie as well even strength goals from Gordon Whalen and Eli Hernandez to finish off the romp.
Herbster finished with three assists to go with his goal as he was one of nine Crunch skaters to have multi-point nights in the victory.
Shots on goal favoured Cochrane by a 35-13 count with Shayne Battler picking up the victory.
Tyler Masternak suffered the loss for the Rock as he allowed nine on 30 attempts while Eric Jackson saved three of five in relief.
