Crunch crown Eskis
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got two goals apiece from Hunter Atchison and John Stevenson to help them defeat the Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-1 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Jus Jordan Arena.
Cochrane came out flying in this one grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on a shorthanded and a later power play tally by Atchison and an even strength effort supplied by Alex Goulet.
The Crunch then extended their lead to 5-0 through 40 minutes thanks to Tyler Minoletti at 4:49 of the second followed by a later goal from Stevenson.
Stevenson added another 20 seconds into the third before David Osborne struck on the power play at 6:14 for the Eskis lone marker on the night.
Jeran Knorr added one more for Cochrane with 10:48left to round out the night’s scoring while also extending a consecutive game point streak to five in the process.
Evan Akkerman had three assists for the Crunch while Dustin Cordeiro chipped in with a pair of helpers in the victory as he ran a point streak to 10 straight outings.
Kurtis David started for Cochrane, but only played 8:17 before being injured and giving way to Brett Young the rest of the way with David making two stops and getting credit for the win.
Young handled 24 of 25 in long relief.
Josh Horner faced 42 shots in defeat for the Eskis.
