Crunch cruise to 10th straight victory with triumph over Rapids

SMOOTH ROCK FALLS, Ont. – Haiden Karnick tallied three times while Bailey Shaver, Brandon McReynolds and Braeden Cross had two apiece to help the Cochrane Crunch roll to their 10th consecutive win Sunday afternoon as they defeated the French River Rapids 10-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League neutral site affair at the Reg Lamy Cultural Centre in Smooth Rock Falls.

Karnick kicked things off offensively for Cochrane 2:28 into the contest while McReynolds struck shorthanded midway through the frame to make it 2-0.

Liam Fleming got one back for French River at 14:14 only to see Shaver connect 33 seconds later to put the Crunch back up by a pair.

Cochrane came out hard to begin the middle session as they scored four times in just over a 15-minute span to take control.

Cross had two of the markers while Karnick and McReynolds had the others.

Fleming’s second of the day and third overall during a power play at 17:52 brought the Rapids a bit closer.

The Crunch put the game away in the third however adding three more to finish things off.

Quinn Robelle during a man advantage, Shaver at even strength and Karnick’s hat trick effort with seven minutes to go accounted for the goals.

Konnar Dechaine, Connor Lovie and Nate Viberg supplied three assists each for Cochrane.

Leighton Williams made 19 stops to record the win.

Newcomer Sebastien Plamondon saw action in net for French River in the loss facing 70 shots in defeat.
