Crunch skate to narrow win over Eskis
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch needed a pair of third period tallies, including one into an empty net, to earn a narrow 3-1 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.
It was the Crunch that kicked off the night’s scoring as Braeden Cross became the first player in the NOJHL to reach the 25-goal plateau this season as he connected at 11:55 of the opening period.
The Eskis drew level two minutes into the middle stanza thanks to an Alex Mitsionis, who notched his seventh of the campaign.
It stayed 1-1 until six and a half minutes into the third when Cochrane captain Connor Lovie supplied the game-winner as he finished off the work of Konnar Dechaine and Brandon McReynolds.
The Crunch then secured the victory in the final moments on an empty net effort from Austin Stauffer to finish things off.
Shots on goal in the contest favoured Cochrane by a 45-34 count with Leighton Williams picking up the win and Trevor Hawkes the defeat.
