Crunch take 2nd straight from Eskimos

IROQUOIS FALLS – The Cochrane Crunch were firing on all offensive cylinders for a second straight night as they rolled to a 10-3 triumph over the Abitibi Eskimos Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.

Dustin Cordeiro and Aviv Milner paced the Crunch offensively with four points apiece in the romp.

Jason Berube and Cordeiro staked the visitors to an early two-goal lead before Abitibi’s Brady Clouthier connected with just one second remaining in the first, via the power play, to make it a 2-1 game after 20 minutes.

There were plenty of tallies supplied in the middle stanza, including four for the Crunch, to go up 6-3 after two periods of play.

Three quick strikes early in the frame off the sticks of Cody Gratton, Reed Gregory and Connor Lovie put Cochrane in control and ended the night for the Eskimos’ Braddock Baalerud in net.

Cameron Etherington pulled Abitibi closer at 3:45, but Gratton’s second of the night made it 6-2 at 8:27.

Scott Peng had one more for the home side before the period wrapped up.

Cochrane then put the game away in the third potting the final four goals of the evening to cap off the convincing victory.

Cordeiro had the first two to finish off a hat trick while Berube and Lovie rounded out the scoring.

Troy Paquette made 28 saves to pick-up the win for the Crunch.

Abitibi starter Braddock Baalerud gave up five against on 22 chances and suffered the loss in just over 23 minutes of work while Chet Tooker stopped 12 of 17 in relief.

NOJHL play resumes Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as Mattawa hosts Sault Ste. Marie at Mike Rodden Arena.
