Crunch top Voodoos 5-3

COCHRANE – Cody Gratton tallied twice and added an assist as the Cochrane Crunch topped the Powassan Voodoos 5-3 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Powassan grabbed a 1-0 lead after one period of play as Nathaniel McLeod connected on the power play hammering home his 16th of the season at 6:46.

The Crunch pulled level early in the middle session thanks to Josh Racek and then took their first lead at 4:09 with a Dustin Cordeiro effort.

The Voodoos Steve Harland levelled the proceedings just over a minute later as he notched his 26th of the campaign while also extending a consecutive game point streak to 15 straight.

Cochrane went back in front for good thanks to Gratton’s first of the evening at 6:23 followed by Aviv Milner as he netted the eventual game-winner in the waning moments of the second stanza.

Kyle Moore pulled Powassan back to within one 40 seconds into the final frame, but Gratton iced it with an empty net effort at 19:33 to round out the scoring.

Brett Young made 35 saves to pick up the win for the Crunch.

Matt Young had 44 stops in defeat for the Voodoos.
