SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Greater Sudbury Cubs goaltender Noah Metivier was unbeatable in posting a shutout as part of a 6-0 win over the Soo Eagles in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Saturday at Pullar Stadium.

The Cubs opened the scoring off an attempt from behind the net from Oliver Smith that banked off a falling Eagles player and slid past Sault Ste. Marie starter Anthony Zolezzi six minutes into the proceedings, with Hudson Chitaroni parked in front.

Still 1-0 Greater Sudbury into the second period, the guests needed just moments to strike when Josh Kavanagh intercepted a clearing attempt and put a shot on the target, where a juicy rebound went right to Smith, who pumped it in at the 16-second mark.

They then tacked on a third, midway through the night, as Samuel Assinewai found Ben Harris going to the net, with the latter guiding it by Zolezzi.

Continuing to press, Greater Sudbury made it 4-0, via the power play, thanks to Ben Lacroix putting a low attempt five-hole.

A Nolan Newton buzzer-beater provided a fifth for the Cubs just before the horn sounded as he clicked on a late man advantage with a snap shot from the left of the net.

Moving to the final frame, Cameron Walker capped off the scoring for Greater Sudbury as he benefitted from a turnover and tucked one in near the crease.

Metivier did the rest for his 11th career shutout as the Cubs moved to 14-4-0-0, while with the loss, the Eagles dipped to 12-5-0-1.
