BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Jacob Palmerio’s second goal of the night, coming 50 seconds into double overtime was the difference as the Soo Eagles defeated the Blind River Beavers 3-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Monday night at the Blind River Community Centre.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Eagles would get on the board first as Jake Lamberty picked up his seventh goal of the campaign at 9:08 of the middle session.
Blind River countered however a couple of shifts later getting the equalizer from Dylan McMahon, who notched his 25th of the season, to knot the affair at 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Palmerio then put Sault Ste. Marie back in front midway through the third only to see the Beavers get the equalizer with 4:37 remaining in regulation thanks to Tristen Bernard.
After the initial OT failed to provide a winner, Palmerio capped off a three-point night by reaching the 25-goal plateau himself early in the next extra session to give his side the extra point on the night.
Hayden Clark chipped in with two assists for the Soo.
Eagles’ netminder Carter McPhail was busy being peppered with 56 shots against in securing the victory.
Blind River goalkeeper Cam Burggrabe made 34 stops in defeat.
With the outside the Soo improves to 32-20-0-1 on the season and to within two points of the 31-20-1-1 Beavers in the NOJHL’s West Division standings.
