Eagles’ Murphy commits to University of Wisconsin-River Falls

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Chris Murphy has committed to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the fall and play for the Falcons’ men’s hockey program, who compete out of the NCAA’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Murphy will join teammate Bradley Hofelich at UW-River Falls, who earlier committed to attend the school.

In 51 games this season, the 20-year-old Murphy led the Eagles in offensive production with 64 points on 23 goals and team-best 41 assists with his totals being one more than Hofelich.

He also picked up nine points in a dozen playoff games for Sault Ste. Marie, including three goals.

The Livonia, Mich., product finished 15th overall in NOJHL scoring.

In 70 career league contests, Murphy averaged over a point-per-game with 76 on 26 markers and 50 helpers.

The veteran forward previously suited up for Team NOJHL at the Eastern Canada All-Star Jr. A Challenge in November in Cornwall, Ont.

“Chris had a great year with us and it has paid off for him as he is going to a great school with a strong program,” stated team president, general manager and associate coach Bruno Bragagnolo.

“The Soo Eagles are proud of Chris and wish him a great collegiate career,” added Bragagnolo.
