SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles picked up two tallies apiece from Charley Hanewall, Kobe Keller and Kyle Quinn Friday to aid in an 8-5 victory over the Blind River Beavers in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium.
Neither side had any trouble finding their scoring touch following the NOJHL’s holiday break as they combined for 13 goals on the night.
Quinn put the Eagles in flight eight and a half minutes into the contest as he connected on a man advantage opportunity for his 12th marker of the season.
Blind River countered later in the session by scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission on efforts from Justin Mauro and Andrew Warhoftig.
Sault Ste. Marie answered that by tallying twice before the middle session was a minute old as Keller and Hanewall both struck quickly.
Ethan Graham tied things up for the Beavers at 2:17, only to see Hanewall, at even strength, and Quinn, via the power play, each pick up their second of the night to put the Soo up by two.
The two teams then traded goals late in the session with Nash Hatcher getting Blind River closer at 15:19 only to see George Orfanos get that right back for the Eagles.
Heading to the third period, Brendan Blair put the hosts up by three at 3:54 before Ryan Peck’s 12th eight minutes later narrowed the deficit once more for Blind River.
Keller then capped off the offensive performance for Eagles in the latter stages of the contest with an empty netter to secure the win.
The Soo out shot the Beavers 52-36 on the evening with Joseph Bennedetto picking up the victory while Garret Boyonoski suffered the loss.
