SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles broke open a one-goal game with a four-tally outburst in an eight-minute span to commence the period as they went on to thump the Blind River Beavers 6-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at Pullar Stadium.
Sault Ste. Marie started things off offensively 7:13 into the contest when Dominic Skrelja notched his ninth tally of the campaign.
Moving on to the middle frame, each side would score once with Charley Hanewall putting the Eagles up 2-0 four and a half minutes into the session before Caleb Serre put the Beavers on the board late in the session.
Heading into the third, Kyle Quinn’s 14th started the Soo’s offensive onslaught just 28 seconds into the session.
Three minutes later, Jake Lamberty made it 4-1 before teammates George Orfanos and Hayden Clark both clicked in rapid succession to extend the home side’s cushion.
Brendan Young’s 19th brought Blind River closer at 8:51, but Mike Butcher capped off the win for the Eagles with a late power play marker to round out the night’s scoring.
Nathan Soilis dished out three assists for the Soo in the triumph as they improved to 3-0 to begin 2019.
The Eagles fired a 20-shot barrage on net in the third as part of the 49 they had overall in the victory.
Joseph Benedetto made 33 saves to earn the win for the hosts with Garret Boyonoski suffering the setback in net for the Beavers.
