BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats used the strength of a two-goal first period goals and a 41-save performance from their starting goaltender Dominic Boily to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.
Elliot Lake came out strong in this one skating to that 2-0 lead after the opening frame on markers from Ryan Hempel, with his fourth, and the 20th of the campaign from rookie forward Noah Minns, who extended a point streak to seven with the marker.
After a scoreless second stanza, Blind River capitalized on the power play with 6:48 remaining in regulation to pull within one on a Ryan Peck marker with assists going to Brendan Young and Nathan Balkwill.
However, Boily shut the door from there the rest of the way to secure a well-deserved road win.
Beavers’ netminder Jackson Hjelle faced 25 shots in defeat.
