BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got a goal in each period to help them defeat the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 3-1 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League neutral site exhibition contest held at the Blind River Community Centre.

The lone marker of the first frame was supplied by Elliot Lake’s Josh Armstrong with 11:20 left in the session.

Ty Hannaford added to the Wildcats lead with the eventual game-winner with just less than three minutes left in the middle stanza.

The Canadians dashed Elliot Lake’s Matt Kostiw’s shutout bid with 7:33 remaining thanks to Matthew Neault’s first of the preseason.

Nick Long added the night’s final tally for Elliot Lake with 2:22 left to round out the scoring.

Jacob Chartrand and Simon Wood split the netminding duties for Rayside-Balfour facing 29 attempts in a losing cause.
