Eskis edge Express in double OT
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Blake Holowaty’s second goal of the game, 1:50 into the second overtime, was the difference as the Iroquois Falls Eskis edged the Espanola Express 4-3 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Jus Jordan Arena.
Iroquois Falls got off to a strong start grabbing a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on tallies from Wade Auger at even strength and Holowaty on the power play.
Espanola battled back in the second stanza to knot the affair at 2-2 beginning with a Jason Bednarski effort at 4:11 and the equalizer courtesy of Aaron Roschchinsky six and a half minutes later.
The Eskis did go back in front however before the session was complete as Auger added another at 18:11 as he converted during a late man advantage opportunity.
Not to be outdone, the Express rallied again to force extra time with Roschchinsky supplying the tying goal while his side was up a man with 2:17 left in regulation.
However after a scoreless first OT, Holowaty won it for the home side in the next extra session to give Iroquois Falls the second point on the night.
Shadow Reuben had a big night for the Eskis as he dished out three assists, including one on the game-winner, while Dillan Bruce chipped in with a couple of helpers.
Both goaltenders were busy facing a minimum 50 shots with Trevor Hawkes seeing 53 attempts on target in picking up the win and Logan Sawka helping Espanola pick up a point with a 46-save performance.
