Eskis’ Osborne leads the way in upset over Cochrane

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Iroquois Falls Eskis got a hat trick and three assists from their captain David Osborne to help them upset the Cochrane Crunch 8-2 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

It appeared it would be Cochrane that would roll to victory early as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the 20th tally of the season for Braeden Cross at 4:30 before Tait Aptakin added another four minutes later.

Undeterred, Iroquois Falls rebounded with goals from Osborne and Josh Dejulio to tie it at 2-2 and see Crunch starter Jacob Burhans replaced in favour of Leighton Williams.

The Eskis were quick to greet Williams as Ryan Gruszka put the visitors in front 44 seconds later.

Iroquois Falls then broke the game open in the middle session as they tacked on four more to take a commanding lead starting with Gruszka and Osborne’s second of the night before Shadow Reuben buried two of his own to make it 7-2 after 40 minutes.

Osborne then picked up his sixth point of the evening and third tally with the night’s final goal with 8:38 to wrap things up.

Gruska also added a trio of helpers to give him five points in the one-sided triumph.

Trevor Hawkes made 47 saves to record the win for the Eskis.

Burhans and Williams combined to face 41 shots in defeat for the Crunch.
