COCHRANE, Ont. – Spencer Hughes, Abram Snider and Levi Siau all tallied twice to help propel the French River Rapids to an eventual 8-2 victory over the Cochrane Crunch Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair at Tim Horton Events Centre.
French River were quick to open the scoring as Spencer Hughes shovelled in a rebound off a Dominik Godin rush towards the Cochrane net before the match-up was two minutes old.
Countering on a five-on-three power play at 3:13, Nolan Bull drew the Crunch level with his second of the season as he finished off some crisp puck movement while parked to the left of the crease.
However, the Rapids stormed back with a trio of tallies before the frame was complete to take a 4-1 edge to the intermission on a pair of markers that were credited to Snider along with a single supplied by Siau.
The visitors kept coming and added a fifth on the night with another by Hughes midway through the match-up as he whipped one in off a clean face-off win by Leo Chambers.
Getting closer before the second intermission, Cochrane’s Matteo Peca provided his ninth of the campaign as he spun in front and buried the rebound off a Ryan Matthews shot from the left point.
Breaking it open in the final frame, French River got goals less than a minute apart to go up by five.
Ryan Goral got his club’s sixth marker at 7:23 as he completed a rush by Chase Lefebvre by roofing one from between the hash marks.
Siau then picked up his second of the night on the next shift after a Joshua McKay attempt from the blueline bounced right to him in the left circle where he buried his 15th goal of the year.
The Rapids’ Godin then converted on a man advantage at 12:26 to help seal the road victory.
Making his NOJHL debut, Julian Dilauro, picked up the win for the Rapids while Crunch starter Ben DeGiallonardo suffered the loss.
