SUDBURY, Ont. – The French River Rapids of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League have announced the commitment of goaltender Keiran Caughran to NCAA Division III SUNY Canton to further his education and compete with the Kangaroos men’s hockey program.
Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Caughran wrapped up his Jr. A career appearing in 25 games for the Rapids, with 14 of them seeing him make 35, or more, saves in a contest, while collecting all of the wins French River had during the season, with four.
In seven of his appearances he finished with 45-plus stops.
Other statistical numbers saw Caughran end up ninth in the NOJHL in saves at 793 and attempts faced at 1,042 on a team that allowed a league-high 2,666 shots against.
“If French River hadn’t given me the opportunity to play as much as I did, I don’t think this chance to play NCAA D-III would have happened,” said Caughran. “Thanks to Paul Frustaglio (head coach/GM), and the organization, for giving me a chance.”
In discussing the commitment, Frustaglio offered: “Keiran worked hard, on and off the ice, and is a great young man, who is deserving of this opportunity.”
Located in Canton, N.Y., the team is a member of the 10-school State University of New York Athletic Conference.
