Gaillards edge Gold Miners in 2nd straight meeting

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Abitibi-Temiscaming Gaillards (RSEQ) scored once in each period to help them edge the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League 3-2 Thursday night at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Christian Snyder gave Kirkland Lake the lead 4:22 into the contest only to see Pierre Binet score on the power play for the visitors with just 18 seconds remaining in the session.

A late second period marker gave the Gaillards the lead as Binet struck again via the man advantage in the final minute of the frame.

Noah Rousson put Abitibi-Temiscaming up by two early in the third before Josh Maine brought the home side closer at 4:11 with assists going to Gregory Trudeau-Paquet and Bradon Crowe.

Neither club would add any further offense before time ran out.

The Gold Miners are back at it Friday afternoon as they meet the French River Rapids in the opening game of the Polar Bear Classic.

Game time there is 3:30 p.m. at the Tim Horton Events Centre in Cochrane.
