KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A highly explosive Kirkland Lake Gold Miners squad erupted in a big way Wednesday by crowning the Abitibi Gaillards 9-2 in an exhibition affair at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
After skating to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Gaillards Tuesday in Rouyn-Noranda, Que., the Gold Miners continued their solid preseason in the one-sided triumph.
Special teams were pivotal in the result as Kirkland Lake struck six times on the man advantage, including times in the third period.
Inde Abresch notched two of the power play markers while Jared Gull-Georgekish, Evan Norris, Carson Ruddy and Aiden Beavan also scored with their club up a skater.
Meanwhile, Noah Woodard, Faustin Ramrekersingh and Jesse Dupuis provide even strength efforts in the romp for the home side, who held intermission leads of 1-0 and 4-2.
Shots on goal favoured the winners by a 67-43 count with Brayden Garnhart picking up the victory for the Gold Miners.
Up next for Kirkland Lake will see them open their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League campaign September 8 as they take on the Iroquois Falls Storm in a 7 p.m. start at Jus Jordan Arena and on FLOHockey.tv.
