Gold Miners drop late 4-2 decision to Gaillards

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. – Sean Fink tallied twice and assisted on one other to help propel the Abitibi-Temiscaming Gaillards to a 4-2 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Tuesday in an exhibition game held in Rouyn-Noranda, Que.

Each side would connect once in the first frame with Fink scoring for the Gaillards while Hunter Foreshew replied for Kirkland Lake as he finished off a Nash Smith feed during a man advantage opportunity.

Fink’s second of the night, coming in the middle stanza, put the home side up by one after 40 minutes.

Moving on to the final frame, the Gold Miners drew level 48 seconds into the third on a Noah Cauchi goal that was assisted by Tristan Day and Felix-Antoine Levesque.

However Abitibi-Temiscaming got the game-winner with 1:23 to go off the stick of Pierre Jenet.

They then added one more into an empty net in the final seconds to secure the win.

As it was an exhibition contest, Kirkland Lake was allowed to dress three goaltenders in the match-up.

Tyler Szturm started for the Gold Miners and stopped 13 of the 14 shots fired his way.

Xavier Garneau came in for the second and handled eight of nine while Ross Jones turned aside seven of eight in third period relief.

The same two teams will meet again Thursday as they finish off a home-and-home set at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. Game time is 7 p.m.
