Gold Miners improve to 2-0 at EHL Showcase

NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League improved to 2-0 at the Eastern Hockey League’s Showcase taking place in Connecticut after skating to a 3-2 triumph Friday over the Walpole Express.

Plating a pair of 25-minute periods, Kirkland Lake grabbed a 2-0 lead after the opening frame on tallies from Noah Cauchi and Colin Cromie.

Jordan Michaud made it 3-0 in the second stanza before Walpole picked up a pair of markers in the late going to make it interesting before time ran out.

Chipping in offensively with two assists for the Gold Miners was Patrick Murphy.

Gregory Brassard made 31 saves to record the win for Kirkland Lake.

The Gold Miners, who are visiting a number of NCAA schools as part of their recruiting trip to the U.S., will conclude their trip Saturday at 2 p.m. as they take on the New Hampshire Avalanche, who are 20-4 so far this season and boast the second-best winning percentage in the 18-team league.
