Gold Miners name Ryan Wood coach/GM
KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Thursday they have named Ryan Wood as the club’s new head coach and general manager.
Wood, a Winnipeg, Man., native, joins the Gold Miners organization after a highly successful run in the Greater Metro Hockey League where he compiled a career record including playoffs of 191-33-4.
Starting with the Bradford Bulls in 2013-14, the Tottenham Steam from 2014-2016 and last season with the New Tecumseth Civics , his teams won four straight Division Championships along with two Russell Cup titles, including one with the Bulls and one with the Steam.
As a head coach & GM in the GMHL, Wood has helped advance 15 players to the NCAA D-III level, four to the CIS, 11 to European minor pro leagues and six to ACHA D-I programs.
A former referee, Hockey Canada Level 4 & USA Hockey level 3 official, Wood officiated in the USHL, NAHL, SPHL, IHL & CHL from 2006-2012, including the Turner Cup finals (IHL).
Well connected through officiating, plus his work as co-creator, director & head coach with Showcase Hockey Development, which provides athletes exposure to junior and College coaches.
He also served as Canadian scout for the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL.
Wood has also been actively involved as a coach/instructor with World Hockey Center summer camps.
It’s through these ventures he has the reputation of being ‘an ace recruiter’.
As Wood gets settled, he will meet with assistants Jed Allick, Paul Lacroix, Doug Bolger & Bryan Bertoncello to round out his coaching staff.
The Gold Miners organization is thrilled and very much looking forward to working with Ryan as we also welcome his wife Catherine and two-year-old son Easton to the Gold Miners Family.
