Gold Miners rally to even series with Trappers

NORTH BAY – Third period tallies a minute and 21 seconds apart allowed the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to rally and pull out a 2-1 victory over the North Bay Trappers Sunday evening in game 2 of their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League semifinal playoff series at Memorial Gardens.

With the win the best-of-seven series is now tied 1-1 heading to games 3 and 4, April 5-6, at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex in Kirkland Lake.

A scoreless opening stanza saw the Gold Miners outshoot the Trappers 13-7.

In the middle session North Bay got a goal from Connor Gilmartin to take the lead heading to the final frame.

Kirkland Lake commenced their comeback with 5:54 remaining as Royce King notched the equalizer beating North Bay starter Greg Dodds with his third of the postseason.

Just over a minute later Jeremy Picard-Fiset buried the game-winner while the Gold Miners were on the power play to even the series heading to Kirkland Lake.

Chris Komma made 25 saves to pick up the win while Dodds faced 29 shots in a losing cause.
