GALLERY: Gold Miners strike again in win over Canadians

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners continued to strike it rich as they improved to 8-2 on the season Sunday following a 4-1 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

After a scoreless first fame, it was the visiting Canadians that opened the scoring 43 seconds into the middle stanza on Brady Maltais’ third goal of the season.

Kirkland Lake countered with the equalizer however three minutes later when Gregory Trudeau-Paquet clicked on a power play opportunity for his sixth of the campaign.

Up two men a couple of shifts after that, the Gold Miners struck again with Quinn Schneidmiller collecting the eventual game-winner at 6:16.

The home side then picked up another marker before the stanza was complete as James Scott’s fourth made 3-1 Kirkland Lake after two periods of play.

Hunter Foreshaw then set-up Jaren DeBolt for some insurance with 12:35 remaining in the contest to round out the scoring.

Foreshaw dished out three assists in all in the triumph while Trudeau-Paquet chipped in with a couple of helpers for a three-point day as well.

Gregory Brassard made 22 stops to pick up the win for Kirkland Lake as he improved to 6-0 on the campaign.

Jean-Marc Brisson started in net for Rayside-Balfour and allowed two against on 17 shots while David Bowen handled 20 of 22 in nearly 34 minutes of relief
