Gold Miners win 4th straight with victory over Iroquois Falls

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got goals from seven different skaters Friday to win their fourth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game in succession as they defeated the visiting Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-1 at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

It took Kirkland Lake just 26 seconds to set the tone in the contest as Alex Storjohann notched his 14th tally of the season on the first shift of the night.

William Mizuik added to the lead midway through the first period before Riley Wagner got one back late in the frame for Iroquois Falls.

The Gold Miners took control in the second stanza as they struck three times in the session to go up 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Lucas Doljanksi and Matthew Brassard connected 44 seconds apart while Patrick Smith capped off the outburst at 12:58.

Kirkland Lake then finished things off in the third with a pair of man advantage markers as Brandon Carr-Ansah and Tyler Fyfe scored on the power play in the latter stages of the frame.

Ashton Amaya, Kevin Ford, Marshal Nikitin and Storjohann supplied two assists each for the Gold Miners.

Shots on goal favoured Kirkland Lake by a 50-16 count with Allan Menary registering the win while Eskis’ netminder Trevor Hawkes was busy in defeat.
