HEARST, Ont. – A four-goal second period outburst sent the hometown Hearst Lumberjacks on their way Wednesday evening as they went on to defeat the Timmins Rock 5-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Claude Larose Arena.
Timmins did take the lead in the contest as C.J. Bradburn put the visitors in front midway through the opening period.
Max Griffioen drew the Lumberjacks level at 13:03 of the session only to see the Rock go back ahead in the latter stages of the stanza on Wayne Mathieu’s sixth of the season at 16:42.
Hearst was strong to begin the middle frame as they struck three times before the second period was six minutes old to go up 4-2 with still over a half a game to play.
After Tyler Watunga collected his first NOJHL marker to knot the affair once more at 3:07, teammates Spencer Silver and Samuel Bourdages connected 26 seconds apart after that to put the Lumberjacks up by two.
Colin Boudreau added to the offensive outburst at 12:53 before A.J. Campbell notched his initial league tally for Timmins just over four minutes later, in what was the final goal of the night.
Jean-Marc Brisson started for Hearst and played the first period allowing two against on seven shots while Nicholas Dube turned aside 15 of 16 in relief to record the win in net.
Eric Jackson suffered the loss for the Rock stopping 24 of 28 with Jordan Yaremchuk saving four of five in over 14 minutes of relief.
