HEARST, Ont. – Hearst Lumberjacks defenceman Matthew MacDougall tallied twice to help lead his side to a 5-1 win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and securing their seventh consecutive victory Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting at Claude Larose Arena with 748 spectators on hand.
First period play saw the home town Lumberjacks pick up the lone marker of the session when Max Griffioen notched his 10th of the campaign at 13:37 as he ran a consecutive game point streak to six in succession.
Hearst then went up 2-0 before the middle session was five minutes old on Olivier Cloutier-Faucher’s seventh of the season.
Dating back to Friday night when the two teams also met, the Lumberjacks picked up their ninth straight tally vs. the Gold Miners at 12:37 on a MacDougall marker.
Kirkland Lake finally snapped their goal drought four minutes into the third as Kyler Campbell collected his third to put the guests on the board.
However, MacDougall’s second of the evening along with Owen Van Holtz connecting on the power play, in his NOJHL debut, helped secure the home ice victory for Hearst.
Jake Desando and David Gobeil both chipped in with two assists in the triumph.
Shots on goal favoured Hearst by a 26-20 margin with Liam Oxner registering the win while Kyle McNair suffered the loss.
