Hektor posts 1st NOJHL shutout in blanking of Rayside-Balfour
BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Myles Hektor made 32 saves to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Blind River Beavers bounced the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 7-0 Sunday at the Blind River Community Centre.
It marked the club’s first shutout since Dec. 5 of last year when Matt Blattenberger made in incredible 62 stops in a 1-0 triumph over the Soo Thunderbirds.
It was all Blind River in this one starting in the latter half of the opening 20 minutes as they scored three times to take early control of the contest.
Max Khull opened the scoring 13:16 into the match-up then supplied his second of the session just over three minutes later.
The Beavers continued to press the attack and were rewarded with a third tally in the stanza as Caleb Serre and Cole Peck combined to set-up Zak Lambrecht with 26 ticks left on the clock.
Blind River then blew it open by tacking on four more in the second period to extend their cushion.
Mark Bastianello’s second and Jordan Kreller, with his first in the league, started things off as they both struck shorthanded while Dylan McMahon and Serre supplied even strength efforts in the latter stages of the period in the one-sided romp.
Hektor did the rest making 11 stops in the third to register his first NOJHL shutout and helping his club snap a lengthy drought in that department.
Serre and Lambrecht each dished out a pair of assists in the victory for a pair of three-point days.
MacKenzie Savard started for the Canadians and allowed four against on 21 attempts before being lifted in favour of Owen Johansson, who handled 16 of the 19 shots he saw in nearly 34 minutes of relief.
