Hepler extends goal streak to 7 as Elliot Lake defeats Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – Elliot Lake Wildcats forward Cole Hepler scored for a seventh consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game and also ran a point streak to nine helping his side knock off the Espanola Express 4-2 Friday at the Regional Recreation Centre.

Joel Grandbois put Espanola in front six and a half minutes into the contest to give the home side the early lead.

Hepler tied it at 13:24 of the first to extend his current-league high goal and point streaks as he struck shorthanded while also notching his 19th tally of the season.

Connor Rider then gave the Wildcats the lead two shifts later and he collected his seventh of the campaign at 14:57.

Elliot Lake defenceman Nathan Campbell put the visitors up by two eight minutes into the middle session as he finished off a feed from Hepler.

Spencer Allen made it 4-1 Wildcats at 11:39 of the third with his side down a man before Grandbois added another, via a shorthanded effort, for the Express late to round out the night’s scoring.

Aaron Mackay was busy in the Wildcats net making 40 saves to record the victory.

Kevin Labelle saw 32 shots fired his way in defeat for Espanola.
