COLLINGWOOD, Ont. – The host Collingwood Blues struck for a trio of tallies in the final 10 minutes of regulation to defeat the Timmins Rock 4-1 Wednesday in quarter-final action at the Cottage Cup preseason tournament at Eddie Bush Arena.
Skating in a pair of two-period sessions, Collingwood took an early lead on a Nick Lamont effort.
The score stayed that way until midway through the final frame when the Rock’s Harry Clark struck shorthanded to knot the score at 1-1.
However, with the Blues still on the power play, Sam Lockyer notched the eventual game-winner just 28 seconds later.
Landon Wright then tacked on a pair of markers in the latter stages of the contest to secure the victory for the home side.
Timmins netminder Patrick Boivin faced 27 shots against in the setback.
The Rock will now begin gearing up for their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season opener, Friday, September 8, as they travel to Greater Sudbury to take on the Cubs at 7:05 p.m.
