KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League exhibition play Sunday saw the Iroquois Falls Storm skate to a 4-2 victory over the hometown Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

After the Gold Miners took the NOJHL exhibition opener Saturday at Jus Jordan Arena, the Storm countered Sunday to collect a road win of their own.

Following a scoreless first period in Sunday’s affair, the Storm got out to a 2-0 lead midway through the proceedings, thanks to markers from Ben Sherwin and Mathieu Roy.

Ryan Greco cut into the deficit for the home side with 8:29 left in the middle session, but Owen Cassidy countered with the eventual game-winner late in the session as the guests went to the intermission up 3-1.

Getting some insurance from Max Jugnauth late into the match-up, to secure the outcome, helped Iroquois Falls collect the win.

The Gold Miners’ Cole Ellis rounded out the scoring before time expired.

Connor Dunham-Fox went the distance in goal for the Storm in the triumph while Connor Davis manned the nets for Kirkland Lake in defeat.
