GALLERY: Kirkland Lake moves back into top spot in NOJHL East with shutout win over Espanola

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Kirkland Lake Gold Miners goaltender Dawson Rodin turned aside all 29 shots he faced to post his fourth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout of the season to help backstop his club to a 6-0 decision over the Espanola Express Saturday at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

With the result, the Gold Miners move back into first place in the NOJHL’s East Division, one point clear of the idle Cochrane Crunch with Kirkland Lake also holding four games in hand among the two clubs.

Fresh off a three-assist night Friday, Alex Elie got the home side on the board eight minutes into the contest as he picked up his eighth goal of the season.

Teammate Jaren Debolt added to the lead late in the frame with his third at 17:08.

It was more Kirkland Lake early in the second as an Aiden Wagner effort put the hosts up by three after 40 minutes.

Noah Cauchi and Vinny DeSantis kept the Gold Miners rolling with markers in the first half of the final frame to put them up by five.

Hunter Foreshew’s eighth later in the session helped seal the outcome as the Gold Miners cruised to the win.

Quinn Schneidmiller and Gabriel LeBlanc chipped in with two assists apiece for the winners.

Andrew Rocha in the Espanola net faced 27 attempts in defeat.
