GALLERY: Kirkland Lake’s Rodin blanks Timmins

TIMMINS, Ont. – Dawson Rodin of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners turned aside all 32 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout, a 5-0 decision over the Timmins Rock, Wednesday evening at McIntyre Arena.

It would be visiting Kirkland Lake that connected for the only goal they would require on this night as Max Newnam picked up his fifth goal of the campaign five and a half minutes into the contest as he promptly extended a consecutive game point to seven in succession.

Noah Cauchi assisted on the play giving him a modest two-game point run on the lone marker of the frame.

Moving on to the middle session, the Gold Miners were quick to strike to extend their lead to two as Joshua Maine potted one 65 seconds into the stanza.

Continuing to capitalize, Kirkland Lake added another before the period was over thanks to Patrick Murphy at 15:04.

The visitors then added some insurance with 11:43 to go as Newnam picked up his second of the evening before Alex Elie finished if off with a late power play goal to round out the night’s scoring.

Cauchi and Christian Snyder both had two assists on the night for the winners.

Tyler Masternak faced 22 attempts against in defeat for the Rock.

With the result, Kirkland Lake improved 6-2-0-0 on the season while Timmins slipped to 4-4-1-0.
