Klippenstein, Orser commit to NCAA schools

NORTH BAY – Two of the North Bay Jr. Trappers top defenders have committed to playing NCAA Division III hockey for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

NOJHL All-Star defenceman Cole Klippenstein has committed to play for the Southern Maine University Huskies for the 2013-14 season.

The six-foot-three-inch, 212-pound blue liner had a memorable season with the Trappers last year recording 18 goals and 19 assists totaling 37 points in 46 regular season games last season.

Klippenstein accepted a commitment to the NCAA division 3 program which plays in the competitive ECAC.

“I am very excited to be attending and playing hockey for the University of Southern Maine next season,” Klippenstein said.

“I believe that USM will be the best place for me to develop as a hockey player and also give me the chance to succeed not only on the ice but in the classroom as well. I had the best year of my hockey career both on and off the ice this past season in North Bay and would like to thank everyone such as Lana and Rolly Storie, my teammates, the coaching staff, and most of all God, because all of them made it such a special year. I am ready to start my collegiate career and believe that we can do great things as a team at USM. I also look forward to be able to apply everything that Coach McCarthy and the coaching staff have taught me on and off the ice last year for when I join Coach Beaney and the Huskies.”

Meantime Beau Orser, who joined the Jr. Trappers halfway through the season, has committed to Oswego State University.

The smooth skating, puck moving defenceman notched 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points in his 19 regular season contests with the Jr. Trappers last year.

Orser and Klippenstein join 6 other graduating players who have committed to play at U.S. or Canadian University/College hockey for the upcoming season.
