Kyle Moore’s 2 tallies helps lead Voodoos past Express

POWASSAN, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos forward Kyle More tallied twice, including notching the game-winner, to help lead the Powassan Voodoos to a 3-2 triumph over the Espanola Express Monday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The win came on a night they named 14-year-old cancer survivor Eric Goupil the team’s Honourary Captain for the night.

The Express kicked off the evening’s scoring 3:47 into the contest on Jason Bednarski’s 10th of the season.

Powassan countered with the equalizer just over three minutes later, via the power play, as Daniel Golba and Jake Staples combined to help Nathaniel McLeod notch his 23rd goal of the campaign.

It stayed 1-1 until the late stages of the second period when Moore supplied an unassisted effort at 18:18 of the stanza.

Moore than picked up the eventual decider 5:40 into the third to put the home side up by two.

Shane Snow brought Espanola back to within one with 6:22 to go as he converted during a two-man advantage opportunity.

The Voodoos and goaltender Garrett Forrest tightened up from however as they held on for the win.

Powassan outshot the Express 45-39 on the night with Forrest earning the victory and Kevin Labelle making 42 saves in defeat for Espanola.
