GALLERY: Masternak matches single-season shutout mark at Timmins tops Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Handling all 23 shots he faced Wednesday vs. the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners allowed Timmins Rock goaltender Tyler Masternak to notch his sixth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout of the season as he backstopped his side to a 4-0 win at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

His shutout total now matches the NOJHL record Masternak set last season with Timmins, as he also had six during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Rock got the only goal they would require on the night 5:15 into the first period as Josh Dickson notched his 21st tally of the campaign, which also proved to be his third game-winner of 2019-20.

Action in the middle stanza saw Timmins extend their lead as they collected tallies from Tyler Schwindt and Cameron Kosurko to take a 3-0 cushion into the second intermission.

Rock captain Derek Sequin then capped off the road triumph as he picked up his 20th goal of the season in the third to round out the scoring.

Kohl Reddy faced 39 shots against in the setback for the Gold Miners.

The result also sees Timmins keep pace with the Powassan Voodoos, who also won on this night, for top spot in the NOJHL East and overall in the league with 70 points apiece.
