ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Noah Minns’ second goal of the game, coming 3:56 into overtime, was the decider as the Elliot Lake Wildcats held on to pull out a 3-2 victory over the Hearst Lumberjacks in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at Centennial Arena.
After a scoreless opening frame, Elliot Lake picked up a pair of markers in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza compliments of Josh Bifolchi and Minns.
Hearst got one back before the session was complete though as Christian James-McDonald picked up his fourth of the campaign at 17:17.
It stayed 2-1 Wildcats until the final minute of regulation when Alec Johnson knocked one in with 45 seconds to go to force OT.
In the extra session, Minns won it for Elliot Lake thanks to a power play goal with assists going to Troy Daniels and Eric Conley to give the home side the win.
Conley had two helpers on the night as did Hearst’s Max Johnson.
The visitors did hold the edge in shots in the contest by a 45-33 margin with Dominic Boily picking up the win while Tomi Gagnon suffered the OT setback helping the Lumberjacks pick up a point.
