Nickel Barons blast Eskimos

SUDBURY – A high-scoring Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Wednesday evening saw the Sudbury Nickel Barons slam the Abitibi Eskimos 12-5 at McClelland Arena.

Nine different Sudbury skaters had multiple-point nights in the one-side victory led by August Jarecki’s hat-trick and one assist performance.

Guillaume Rheault tallied twice and set-up another for the Nickel Barons while Brody Brunet, Ryan Punkari, Giovanni Foschia, Martin Jolicouer, Bradley Bell, Justin Bell and Dylan Callaghan notched singles.

Brett Dusick chipped in with three helpers with Jimmy Roy and Bradley Bell adding a couple assists apiece for Sudbury who held intermission leads of 3-0 and 8-2.

Ryan Wildman, Marc Dube, Brenden Locke, Kealy Cummings and Erik Robichaud all scored for Abitibi and Jacob Kenney supplied two assists.

Michael Muzyka made 33 saves to register the victory for the Nickel Barons to help them improve to 4-9-0-2 on the campaign.

Sylvain Miron was pelted with 49 shots in a losing cause for the Eskimos who slipped to 6-7-0-2.

NOJHL action continues Friday as Kirkland Lake hosts Elliot Lake and Espanola entertains North Bay in a pair of 7:30 p.m. starts.
