Nickel Barons double up Eskimos 6-3

SUDBURY – The Sudbury Nickel Barons used a well-balanced attack getting goals from six different skaters en route to a 6-3 victory over the Abitibi Eskimos Wednesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McClelland Arena.

Each side would find the back of the net once in the first period with Jacob Kenney opening the scoring for Abitibi nine minutes in only to see Bradley Bell notch the equalizer for the Nickel Barons via the power play at 18:03.

Sudbury stormed out in the middle session striking four times in a span of eight minutes and 23 seconds to go up 5-1 before the Eskimos responded with two of their own to pull back within two entering the third.

Adding markers for the Nickel Barons in the stanza were Josh Moore, Patrick Lepage, Jimmy Roy and August Jarecki before Kenney’s second of the night and one by Brendan Locke brought the visitors closer.

In the final frame Khadyn Butterfly rounded out the scoring with an insurance marker midway through the session to secure the win for Sudbury.

Andrew Lefevbre finished the night with 28 saves to earn the triumph in net for the Nickel Barons who fired 33 shots on Brody Wagner, who suffered the loss for Abitibi.

NOJHL action resumes Friday with a trio of 7:30 p.m. encounters as Elliot Lake hosts Kirkland Lake, Espanola welcomes Sault Ste. Marie while the Eskimos and Sudbury meet again in what will be a neutral site affair at McIntyre Arena in Timmins.
