Nickel Barons’ Jarecki named NOJHL’s RBC scholastic player of the year

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that August Jarecki of the Sudbury Nickel Barons has been named its scholastic player of the year for the 2013-14 season.

With the honour comes a $1,000 scholarship on behalf of RBC to help defer costs of his post-secondary education.

Jarecki also becomes the NOJHL’s nominee for the Hockey Canada/Canadian Jr. Hockey League RBC scholastic player of the year award, which will be announced during next month’s RBC Cup in Vernon, B.C. That recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

The 19-year-old Sudbury product is in his second year at Laurentian University where he is majoring in mechanical engineering.

Jarecki was named to the Laurentian’s Dean’s Honour List, recognizing his accomplishments in the classroom.

He also earned a place on the Honour Roll each year in high school.

On the ice Jarecki led the Nickel Barons in offensive production this season with 37 points in 44 games on 15 tallies and 2 assists.
