NOJHL announces 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced that goalkeeper Jeremy Pominville of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners along with forwards Gavin Burbach of the Soo Thunderbirds and Samuel Wilbur of Kirkland Lake have been named the 3 Stars of the week for the period ending April 13.

JEREMY POMINVILLE, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Pominville was recognized for a third consecutive week for his impressive efforts between the pipes for the Gold Miners.

The 20-year-old Mattice, Ont., product kicked out 40 of the 42 shots he faced in a hard-luck 2-1 double overtime defeat Saturday in the opener of the league finals.

One night later he made another 30 stops as the Gold Miners evened the series with a 5-3 triumph at Essar Centre Sunday.

Pominville is an impressive 8-1 in postseason play and leads all NOJHL goaltenders in both goals-against average and save percentage in the NOJHL playoffs at 1.58 and .940.

GAVIN BURBACH, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The Sault Ste. Marie captain leads his team in offensive production through the first two match-ups of the league final having scored twice and assisted on another.

Burbach buried the game-winner in the second extra session to give the Thunderbirds the win in game 1 and then had another tally and also supplied a helper in the game 2 defeat.

He has 10 points in the playoffs for the T-Birds in 11 games, including five markers.

SAMUEL WILBUR, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Wilbur recorded three assists in the first two games of the NOJHL final helping his side earn a split on the road in the opening pair of contests of the series.

The veteran forward, who is in his last year of Jr. A hockey, set-up the Gold Miners lone tally in the double OT loss in game 1.

The Saginaw, Mich., product then doled out a pair of helpers, including assisting on the game-winner, as Kirkland Lake evened the best-of-seven affair at a game apiece heading into game 3 at home Thursday.

Wilbur has points in five straight postseason contests and nine of the 10 playoff games his club has played to date.

He leads all NOJHL skaters in points with 14 in those 10 outings.
