NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Brady Clouthier of the Abitibi Eskimos and Connor Thie of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners along with Sudbury Nickel Barons defenceman Kyle Fransen have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Dec. 14.

BRADY CLOUTHIER, (F) ABITIBI ESKIMOS – It was a record-setting week for the veteran Abitibi forward as he soared up the NOJHL scoring charts.

Clouthier began his week by notching the Eskimos lone tally in a loss to Kirkland Lake and then followed that up with an impressive six-goal, three-assist, nine-point night Saturday as Abitibi defeated Powassan 13-6.

The 20-year-old Arnprior, Ont., product scored the games’ first three markers in a span of one minute and 36 seconds to set a new team record for fastest three goals by a player in club history, surpassing the old mark of 3:59 set back during the 2001-02 campaign by Yannick Marois.

Clouthier also established a new record for fastest four goals by an Abitibi player besting the old mark formerly held by Ian Fummerton set in the 1999-2000 campaign. His five markers tied a record reached by Marois 2001-02 while his six tallies and nine points in a single game marked that first time that has been done in Eskimos history.

His offensive outburst moved him to second in NOJHL scoring (54 points), second in goals (26) and third in assists (28).

Clouthier is also riding a seven-game point streak and has only been held pointless three times in 27 outings this season.

CONNOR THIE, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – The 19-year-old Thie, who hails from Minnetonka, Minn., racked up six points last week helping the Gold Miners come away victorious in both match-ups they took part in.

He started off by tallying twice and doling out three assists in a home ice triumph over Abitibi Friday.

Thie then added another marker Saturday in a hard-fought 3-2 win over Cochrane Saturday.

He currently sits eighth in NOJHL scoring with 38 points in just 22 games and is also riding a seven-game point streak.

KYLE FRANSEN, (D) – SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS – Fransen was another player who chipped in for his hometown Sudbury side recording multiple-point nights as the Nickel Barons skated to a pair of overtime decision.

The 19-year-old D-man assisted on an earlier tally and then helped set-up the game-winner in extra time as Sudbury stopped Powassan 4-3 Wednesday at McClelland Arena.

Three nights later Fransen accomplished the same feat by doling out two more helpers, including one in OT as the Nickel Barons rallied to surprise Sault Ste. Marie 4-3 on the road.

Currently tied for the team lead in scoring Sudbury has posted a solid 12-1-0-2 record when he has registers at least one point in a game.
