NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Brett Ouderkirk of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Roman Gaudet of the Soo Eagles along with Timmins Rock defenceman Andrew Castagna have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending Jan. 17.

BRETT OUDERKIRK, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – The 18-year-old native of Monkland, Ont., took to the ice twice last week and supplied four points helping Kirkland Lake pick-up a pair of victories as the Gold Miners extended a winning streak to six.

Ouderkirk started off by dishing out two assists, including one on the game-winner in double overtime, as his club edged Cochrane 4-3 on Thursday.

One night later he collected his 18th NOJHL tally of the season and set-up another as Kirkland Lake skated past his former team, the Iroquois Falls Eskis.

Currently having recorded points in seven straight games, Ouderkirk sits second on the Gold Miners and tied for ninth in the league in offensive production with 52 points, including 34 assists.

ROMAN GAUDET, (F) SOO EAGLES – As the Eagles went on the road for a two-game trek, Gaudet paced the club offensively registering five points in away triumphs at Espanola and Rayside-Balfour.

He began by scoring once and dishing out a pair of assists as the Eagles derailed the Express Friday.

The next evening the Eagles forward scored once more and dished out a helper in a 3-1 victory over the Canadians in Chelmsford as he extended a point streak to four.

Since joining the Eagles in October, the 19-year-old Plymouth, Mich., product has averaged over a point-per-game with 24 in 15 outings on eight goals and 16 assists and sits third on his club in offensive production.

ANDREW CASTAGNA, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Castagna played a pivotal role in the Rock’s lone game last week as he supplied the heroics.

Down 2-0, the 19-year-old native of North Vancouver, B.C. first helped Timmins get on the board in the third period of a home contest vs. Powassan Saturday.

Castagna then tied it in the latter stages of regulation before capping off his impressive night by firing home the game-winner from the point in overtime as the Rock rallied past the Voodoos for his initial NOJHL multi-goal performance and hat trick.

The Timmins blueliner now has eight tallies and 13 assists in 39 games for the Rock to date.
